I was staying while in transit from Tanzania to Kenya then home to the UK. The hotel was comfortable and clean and the staff were friendly but the hotel overall was a bit anonymous and functional and felt more like a business hotel than I expected.

I guess as it was so close to the airport I should have expected it, but is was rather functional and not very 'warm'.

Ole Sereni needs to work serioulsy in all department. Fb is good Room. Curtain no day light, Tuning ac, tv channels. Front desk not trained etc etc. Fitness not good. I did talk to the gm and have given him a list.

    Good

I travel a great deal and stay in hotels four or five nights a week. I like your hotel very much, but am always disappointed that its not as good as it could be. Detailed Staff training ! Sometimes I stay in the Stanley, but their staff are the same. Use the Intercontinental at OR Tambo as a benchmark, It's excellent. I DON'T NORMALLY FILL THESE THINGS IN, BUT I WANT YOU TO BE BETTER AND THE BEST. YOU HAVE A WONDERFUL HOTEL

Staff are reasonably attentive, but require detail training. Barman didn't know what a whisky sour was. When it rained, outside diners were left to fend for themselves When I checked out, there was insufficient urgency in getting my bags from the room to the door. Staff chat too much among themselves Towels in rooms should be slightly starched. THIS IS INTENDED TO BE CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM.

    Good

Location near the airport and the Nairobi Game Reserve.

The noisy airconditioing and the general noise during the night. The lunchtime buffet could only be described as "fair" - certainly not "good" or "Excellent".

Absolutely Amazing! Unforgettable staying experience in Africa!

  • 8.8
    Superb

The hotel's location right on the Nairobi National Park gives you sweeping and outstanding views of the shrub-land, if one is in a park- facing room.

Since it's a new hotel, I think the staff needs a little more training in the hospitality business to truly add value to the overall experience of staying at the hotel.

First class. As good as any 5 star in Europe. Excellent cuisine, didn't want for anything. Good business centre, congenial atmosphere, super place for informal business meetings over looking the game park. Great staff and efficiency and can highly recommend this to all business travellers. Handy for the airport in Nairobi and a great place to entertain. Full marks!

The price is quite high and as it is quite high I think that complimentary nuts and crisps and possibly non alcoholic drinks should be included without additional charge, I did find penny pinching over a 200Ksh packet of nuts rather tedious when I had paid over $200 a night!! I also think that business travellers should just show their card key to have access to the free internet, without the fuss of having to get a ticket and a code which is complicated to use and a bit of a frustration. The business centre is always staffed, so drop the codes and just get people to present their valid room card and use the facility - quicker, simpler and cheaper I would have thought

    Very good

My room door was left open one day. Several times the cleaners forgot to put the correct towels/bath mat etc

Would have liked there to be a spa.

Not much other than its a new hotel, rooms nice but service very poor and disorganised.

Upon arrival at the hotel they had no record of my booking, a room was found ( actually at a reduced rate) but they failed to understand my concern over double charging to my card which guaranteed the original booking. I was advised that check out time was 10:00 which is unusually early and was bad as my connecting flight was in th eafternoon. The room was new and confortable except for the bed which was very hard. As I had just come from southern Sudan i was pleased to be in reasonable accomodation and looking forward to a good meal, at the reserraunt they had no tables free, despite several being empty allegedly reserved, after a strugle i was given a table and throught my meal at least 4 tables remained free throughout. the stake I ordered as medium well arrived medium rare and was very tough, sent it back and waited for it to be done properly.problems with poor internet connection had this worked I would have found another hotel and checked out, power switching off several times. Service standard was very poor with no attempt to correct the issues. no management response to my complaints. The hotel is on the edge of an induistrial area and despite being on the border of the game park it is unlikley that any animals will venture that close to the industrial area. I booked the hotel due to its proximity to the airport only but was very dissapointed with the hotel and particularly the service. I also bookeed a car for the airport this was not arranged and ready and I waited a further 15 minutes for this to be arranged. In future I will return to the Southern Sun. Booking .com called ref the reservation and handled the booking issue very well and confirmed the problem was with the disorganised hotel. Previous reviewes also reflected the same type of issues.

    Good

The view and the decor. The hotel really looked wonderful and some of the staff were very friendly.

Some of the staff were not so friendly and did not offer a good service. There were also some issues with overcharging for the mini bar which was a bad way to end our stay. We also had some issues with our room which were not easily rectified and we were not overly happy with our treatment in general.

Closer to the airport than city centre hotels

Neither clean nor comfortable. An issue with reception short changing me and a manager asking me to swap the $100 bills he saw in my wallet for others he had with which there was "a problem" made me feel unsafe. Breakfast never arrived and I left hungry. Shocking service and vastly overpriced.

Hotel is very large and appears to have lots of facilities (we didn't use many as were just using hotel for overnight stay before flight home). Rooms were spacious, although hardly luxury considering the price paid. Hotel is very well situated for airport and have their own cars to take you to airport (for reasonable fee).

Check took over 30 minutes, with no real explanation as to why and reception staff weren't informative or friendly - no real apology as to why check in took so long (although appears they thought we weren't coming despite arriving for check in around 6pm - not exactly late!). Restaurant staff were slow - we ordered drinks which never arrived, so cancelled them and just paid the bill. The beds weren't very comfortable (very hard).

    Good

Nice common spaces staff friendly and helpful

Bedroom windows do not fully close, no mosquito netting. Rooms basic compared to price

  • 6.2
    Good

Ideal location, good food, very very friendly and helpful staff, and good security

No power points for laptop at bedside. Stained shower floor and shower glass. Dirty curtains. can easily lock oneself out on the balcony.
